Bruxelles, Final Conference of DISCIT

On 9th and 10th November the Final Conference of DISCIT – Findings and Impact “The prospects for Active Citizenship for Persons with disabilities” had been held in Brussels.

DISCIT – Making Persons with disabilities full citizens-, a project co-financed by the EU 7th Framework program examines how different types of policies can be mutually supportive in enhancing Active Citizenship for persons with disabilities. The objective of the project is to produce new knowledge to enabling Member States to achieve the full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in the society and the economy.

Topic of the conference was to disseminate the results achieved and to debate with all the stakeholders how to use and understand those achievements.

For this reason the discussion focused on community living, labour market, access to new technologies, universal design and on the role of the DPOs -Disable People Organizations.

The European Disability Forum and its president Catherine Naughton attended the event too, as well as all the National Stakeholders Committe.

Emanuele Ferrante, Focal Point for UNCRPD at Italian Ministry of Labour, and Vincenzo Falabella, President of FISH -Federazione Italiana per il Superamento dell’Handicap- one of the main association for the rights of person with disabilities, were representing the Italian Stakeholders Comittee.
