Internship at ARCO and Yunus Social Business Centre University of Florence

ARCO is an action research lab founded in 2008 by professors of the University of Florence and practitioners of the consultancy company LAMA.
The lab is composed by a group of economists, statisticians, social scientists and anthropologists coming from different professional backgrounds such as universities, development organizations and advisory agencies.

The ARCO lab is structured in four strategic units:

Groups at Risk and Inclusive Development Unit: this unit focuses on the health sector and disability policies of international cooperation;

Impact Evaluation Unit: this unit works on qualitative and quantitative impact evaluations drawn up with the human development approach which is applied on projects, programs, policies and processes;

Local Development Unit: this unit concerns high level studies and researches on local development processes through the perspective of human and sustainable development;

Third sector and social innovation unit: this unit performs research, evaluations end training projects on subjects such as social enterprises and social innovation. It supports the activities of Yunus Social Business Centre University of Florence that is a university research and consultancy centre placed at PIN S.c.rl. Polo Universitario City of Prato in partnership with Professor Muhammad Yunus, Nobel prize for peace 2006 and founder of Grameen Bank.

ARCO and the Yunus Social Business Centre University of Florence offer an internship position open to university students.

The Centre is qualified to validate the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System Credits) or CFU (Crediti Formativi Universitari) for the internship. This internship is recommended for those who are interested in research, consultancy, development policies, third sector, social entrepreneurship.

Activities to carry out during the internship:

  • Planning
  • Research activity
  • Writing of reports and projects
  • Support in writing research papers
  • Participation to seminars and educational meetings
  • Participation to training and educational projects
  • Organization of seminars, workshops and events
  • Support to the activities of the office of Pistoia where the “Pistoia Social Business City” program is carried on
  • Meetings

Internship terms: From March 2015 to June 2015; an exact period will be agreed; minimum commitment: 4 months full time.

Internship location: Florence/Prato/Pistoia

Note: Although CFU are provided and a reimbursement of travel costs between Firenze and Pistoia is foreseen, no remuneration is provided.

Requirements:

  • Maximum age 28 years;
  • Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken (a part of the interview will be in English);
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and excellent knowledge of internet browsers (the interview will also consist of a test on Excel, Word and Powerpoint);
  • Attitude to team work.

Preferential condition:

  • Previous experience in a developing country or abroad;
  • Previous experience in the field of Third sector and social entrepreneurship
  • Good knowledge of other languages besides English (in particular: French and Spanish)
  • Previous work or voluntary work experience
